While this is no longer the headquarters of the Transamerica Corporation, it is still very closely associated with the company in the public's eye, and remains the company's logo. Even though Transamerica was long ago bought and sold, this building remains an icon of the city of San Francisco.

The building's unusual shape is a four-sided pyramid intersected with a rectangle, forming two "wings" that flank its east and west sides. The eastern wing is an elevator shaft. The western is a smoke tower and stairwell.

Above these wings rises a 212-foot-tall aluminum spire which continues the pyramid shape of the building, and serves as its cap. This portion of the building is unoccupied, but is illuminated at night. The very tip of the pyramid is, indeed, pyramid-shaped. It is made of clear material and contains an aircraft beacon and a white decorative beacon.
