Briefly
Los Angeles started out as a "Gold Rush" Town in the 1800s, then grew into the 2nd Largest City in the nation. The 1,018 Foot Library Tower is the tallest building in the city today, the building can resist earthquakes like if it was a rubber-band. L.A. is the short name for this city, which has had it's share of earthquakes in the 20th Century. Also, this city is notoriously known for Smog, because of factories, cars on the freeways, and wind power. There is an interesting freeway junction near downtown that has been printed in books. Also know for it's movie tourism and industry in Hollywood, where you can find the huge sign "HOLLYWOOD", but the sign did not use to look like that. In the 1950s, it was suppose to be called "HOLLYWOODLAND", but a few months after it was built, the "LAND" part of the sign collapsed, due to high wind. The city put better foundation on the back of each letter, so it would stay put as the "Landmark Sign". Also known for famous television shows, "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" aired here in the 1990s, but was later cancelled, due to people not watching the show. So now Disney XD now airs it around 1am. The city has a lot of congestion as well, which is voted #1 in the U.S. Transportation Bureau.
