What Season MVP Means
Just like in the Chicago Bulls Season MVPs, this means the go-to guy for the team on the basketball court. The Lakers are a Dynasty Team. Having Legend after Legend. They won Championships 15 times including the most recent 2009 Champions. The first of these teams to happen were Kareem Abdul-Jabber for his assists, points, and rebounds. Jabber would soon find out he had some back-up, that meant having Magic Johnson. Magic was known for points, assists, rebounds, and blocks. The Kareem-Magic Duo soon became a trio with James Worthy. Worthy helped out with points, assists, and steals. These players soon knew they had championship rings. That slowed down with the Celtics in the 1980s, and then with the Bulls in the 1990s. These players decided it was time to turn in the jersey, but there was no championship team. Nick Van Exel was the guy to help the Lakers with getting to the Playoffs. Van Exel gave the Lakers points, assists, steals, and rebounds. There was no one to help, until Magic decided to return for 1 more season. Magic had points, assists, and rebounds. Still though, the Lakers did not go to the NBA Finals. After that 1 season, Shaq came to L.A. and help the Lakers with points, rebounds, and blocks. Shaq then knew there was a new guy in town in 1998, and that was Kobe Bryant straight out of high school. Kobe is still playing, and helping the Lakers to more Championships. Kobe and Shaq had a fall-out by the time Shaq was closer to the end of his season with the Lakers. This stopped in Phoenix when Kobe and Shaq won the NBA All-Star MVP Award in 2009. Kobe did not have much help after Shaq left, but that changed the next season with Lamar Odom. After winning a couple NBA Championships, the Lakers lost Shaq for Lamar Odom. Odom helped Bryant with points, rebounds, and blocks. Odom was involved in a trade that sent Shaq to Miami. The Lakers would still not achieve their goal again to the NBA Finals. The Lakers achieved getting a defensive player like Shaq in 2007, that would be Andrew Bynum. Bynum is becoming an improved player straight out of high school, just like Kobe did. Has not been able to play all 82 Games in 2008 and 2009 due to injury. He has recovered and with only the first game starting on October 27, 2009, Bynum had 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 block to help the Lakers along with Kobe Bryant's 33 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists beat the Clippers 99-92. Bynum is showing he is possible for all 82 Games this season. Unfortunately the Lakers lost the 2008 NBA Finals to the Celtics, but the next year they turned out great. The Lakers even won the NBA Finals in 2009, before the newer season started. There is a promising future for the current Lakers with even adding Ron Artest, who was Defensive Player Of The Year 2002-2003 with the Pacers. This is of how great a player can be an MVP for their team. The Lakers have shown they are a very great team. Kobe Bryant has shown that he is still the man with the arm. He is even starting the 2010 NBA All Star Game. He passed Laker Star Jerry West in Points. Pau Gasol has played defensively with the Lakers averaging 17.4 Points and 10.4 Rebounds per game. This year though, Gasol will not start in the NBA 2010 All Star Game, but will be a reserve. Andrew Bynum has played healthy all season, which is why the Lakers need him. He averages 10.4 Points, 7.3 Rebounds, and 3.4 Blocks per game. Unfortunately, he was voted out of the 2010 NBA All Star Game. Bynum was a running candidate in 2nd for Centers in All Star Voting. He is still a possible candidate for Defensive Player Of The Year.
