Mercantile Bank Center

Overview

Banks have always used their buildings to project their image. In the past monolithic stone and classical columns were used to portray an image of sophistication and safety. Today's US Bank tower in Saint Louis is a modern take on this age-old publicity move. One US Bank Plaza uses visible cross braces, sharp corners, and dark colors to impart modern masculinity and stability. This building does not soar. It is not graceful. And it is not meant to be. It is a solid, but not unfriendly presence, firmly rooted in the St. Louis skyline -- a default entity that does not need to attract attention to be noticed.
