History
Perkins+Will have done a lot of buildings in Chicago. They began doing buildings in the 1960s. Their biggest achievements were Chase Tower (Chicago) in 1969. Next, they thought about doing a mall with a hotel/office tower, which is Water Tower Place built in 1976, it has the Ritz Carlton Hotel and a very amazing mall atrium. They did not have much after that, until the Sears Tower needed a nicer Wacker Dive Entrance, which they helped with Skidmore, Owings, and Merril in 1985. A few years later, they were asked to do the Hancock Center Plaza on Michigan Avenue, which they added with cascading fountains. Santiago Calatrava was so impressed of what he saw in Chicago, even with entrances and plazas, that he asked them to do the Chicago Spire Plaza and Entrance to the tower. Perkins+Will do skyscrapers and public city plazas. They have been around since the early 1960s.
