Tampa's Tall Building History

It took Tampa 50 years to get it's first tall building. Since that being the fact that tall buildings did not become common after the 1920s. So in 1972, Park Tower (Tampa) was completed, making it the tallest building in Tampa until 1988, when the One Tampa City Center surpassed it by quite a few feet. That did not stop more tall buildings though. In the early 1990s came Bank Of America Plaza, which even though is now the city's 2nd tallest building, is not that famous. In 1992, the Regions Building surpassed all other buildings as the tallest building in the city.

  • 1972: Park Tower (Tampa) is topped-off, making it the tallest building in the Tampa Bay Area.
  • 1988: One Tampa City Center is topped-off, making it not only the tallest building in the Tampa Bay Area, but the most modern building on the skyline.
  • 1992: 100 North Tampa is completed, making it the tallest building in the Tampa Bay Area. It is even the tallest as of today, but that was not planned in 2007, when Trump Tower Tampa was suppose to be built. Due to the soil in the ground in 2004 and the Financial Crisis in 2007, the building was cancelled.
