Overview

The first significant skyscraper proposal in Boston in years, politicians, residents, and architecture fans all hope the Trans National Place becomes a reality. Trans National Place is the response to mayor Thomas M. Menino's call to local and national corporations to erect a building that would evoke his city's greatness. Ultimately, the city only ended up with one serious proposal -- this one from businessman Steve Belkin.

The plan is to demolish the Winthrop Square parking garage and an adjacent building at 133 Federal Street to develop the skyscraper. It will rise on columns above a one acre public park, matched by another public park on the building's roof. Reflectors on this building and on neighboring buildings will reflect light into the park.
