Briefly

Woodstock was founded in the 1800s. The "Square" started to develop around the 1880s. Woodstock had a population of 29,762 people in 2007, but in 2008 added 367 people. The town has a lot of architecture. In 1992, it was featured in the movie "Groundhog Day". The town started making the movie into a festival year round in February. Woodstock recently has been doing redevelopment in the Area. Just north of the Square is a new development to downtown Woodstock known as "Town Square Condominiums", and to the south of town there is a development called "Apple Creek Estates", which will take up what was once "rural", a subdivision, school, townhouses, and a park around Hwy. 14 to Hwy. 47 to Locus Road to Dean Street. This is Woodstock's biggest push for Urban Development. On July 30, 2009, an F1 Tornado touched down damaging the town's Rosati's and small shopping center. The tornado was as strong as 100mph.

  • In March 2010, Longmeadow Parkway got approval from the State and County. Ground is expected to be broken in mid Spring to early Summer 2010. This parkway will not be like Randall Road, but more like the area's 1st major Freeway with a Toll-Bridge over the Fox River. Completion is expected by June 2011.
  • Early May 2010- Unfortunately for Woodstock's economy, K-Mart closed it's doors for good and now is an empty shopping center. The town is seeking renewal of the current shopping center with possible restaurant buildings built closer to Hwy. 47.
  • Mid-Late May 2010- McDonald's was torn down completely on Hwy. 47 due to a newer design being built in the same location. The new design will have a flat rooftop and half arches on the front and on one side of the building's rooftop.

Tourist Zones

The Woodstock Square is the #1 Tourist Zone in McHenry County for the Square. The town also has a viewing spot by the Square. It's a good location when driving to see the skyline on Hwy. 47 near Judd Street.
